Firewire networking with firewire external HD
Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone. Not that this has given me problems but here's the story.
I have an iMac G4 connected to my office LAN via ethernet. I then share my internet connection with my powerbook via firewire. Then I connect my external HD to the other firewire port of the iMac.
The external HD mounts on the Powerbook and not on the iMac.
Both can still connect to the internet.
Any thoughts?

This is interesting. Is your iMac able to mount the hard disk when Internet connection sharing is off? I think by default Mac OS X will share its Internet connection to the built-in firewire through all ports, since all of them are connected to the single Firewire PHY controller.
Can you fire up Network Utillity and see if Mac OS X assigned an IP address to both firewire ports? One of them should be labelled fw0 and the other fw1. Otherwise, are you able to "force mount" the volume by going to Disk Utility? Does it detect the hard drive? What about System Profiler?

I've discovered on how to mount the hardrive on my iMac. I plug in my PB for internet sharing and once both computers are set up, I then plug the HD and the HD mounts on the iMac instead on the PB. If I start up the computers at the same time, but the HD is already plugged in and is active, the HD will mount on the PB. I haven't tried the disck utility to mount the HD on the iMac but I can mount it via networking with the PB.
