    Default Cube OR Quicksilver

    to all muggers,

my friend said that importing a mac would cost lower than buying here.
mainly because pmacs here are rare and are quickly sold.
so, i am deciding on importing either a cube or a quicksilver (both power mac g4).
the problem is i can't really decide on what will i choose,
so, i would ask some valuable advice from all EXPERTS out there.

here are some of the differences i found:

cube may come with a studio display while quicksilver doesn't
cube haves cheaper shipping cost than a quicksilver
quicksilvers are faster (733Mhz up) than cubes (450Mhz to 500Mhz)
quicksilvers have more upgrades here than a cube

please, let me have a word or two from all those EXPERTS out there. :drunk::dry:

Be careful if you decide to import an Apple LCD display, they don't ship well if not properly packed. I would hand carry it from the U.S.

The G4 Cube is a great machine. My MacGurujji Glen has one and is quite satisfied with it. Max out the RAM, and get a bigger hard drive. The only thing is you cannot really upgrade although, there are some that even make a bigger enclosure in order to put in a faster processor I believe.

Check out eBay and search PowerMac G4.

    Cheers,

The Cube is great, but it really isn't as upgradeable as a quicksilver.... its that lack of PCI slots...wish it had one so I could add USB 2.0. I've maxxed out my hard drive at 120 gb. RAM is at 1gb. The video card isn't hard to replace, but cooling becomes an issue, especially here. I added a cooling fan....that should give me more life. The cube is great to have if you plan on keeping it.... but expect parts in the future to be a problem...

Depends on whether you want performance or a great form factor. I chose the latter. Plus its featured in New York's Museum of Modern Art and at the Smithsonian. The Cube is a collectible now. Check out www.cubeowner.com for more information.

if you're interested in an inexpensive G4, don't rule out the emac, which is the cheapest G4 you can get and gives you a lot of bang for your buck. you can get used ones hereabouts for, oh, less than 40K. (there were two used units at the big ynzal sale for 36K each--they sold out very quickly, but there's more of them here somewhere.)

you get a great G4 running at a minimum of 700 mhz, a 17-inch CRT flat screen, upgradeability, 2 firewire/3 USB ports, and solid performance. it weighs a ton, but that's what it was meant to be (for schools, so kids couldn't mess with it).

i'd love to add a cube to my collection of compact macs, but it's actually quite pricey, having achieved cult or iconic status. i'd be buying it if ever as sculpture rather than as a daily workhorse
