Apples in London (kinda long...)
Am killing time at the library and I just thought of giving a report on how widely-used Apple is here in London. So here it is...
iPod.
Not surprisingly, the iPod is everywhere. And to many people here it is a travel necessity. Using the Tube (the subway system in London) here, you alwyas see a pair of white headphones sticking out of a jacket or a bag. Apparently, most people here use it to tune out from everyone else while on the subway. I myself tried doing it since it takes me a good 30 minutes by subway to get to central London. It's amazing how many people own iPods here.
I did my rounds of Tottenham Court road which houses most of the technology shops. And iPods are still everywhere. I only saw 1 Mac-dedicated store in a row of about 30 computer stores but everyone has iPods on display. But just like anything in London, it's so damn expensive. iPods retail for about £230 for the 20gb. (Exchange rate is about 106 pesos to one pound) And they don't have that much accessories. @Games or AppleCenter in Manila has more gadgets to pick from.
iMac G5.
The iMac G5s are not as nice as I thought it would be. A little bit chunkier than I thought but it is still a sleek looking machine. My dad, a die hard PC user, is actually considering getting one after seeing the iMac here in London. (Vic you better tease my dad into switching if you see him)
My University.
Thank god I am going to an arts university. Macs are everywhere. My course even has a whole class dedicated to using the Apple Macintosh. I am currently using a 15" iMac G4 flat-panel to surf the web here in the library. Macs outnumber the PCs here easily 4:1. The Media Production Centre where I am having most of my classes have about 15 Powermac G5s with two Formac 17"-inch flat panels per workstation. The univeristy is currently trying out the Wi-fi here and it's not really that fast yet. But I got to surf from the soccer field a while ago so that was fun.
Wi-fi.
I don't know why most of the phone companies are telling me that I can't get wi-fi because I am using a Mac. They keep insisting on me needing a 3G PCI card to make it work. I have to try and walk into a Starbucks and just see if I can use their Wi-fi services without the PCI card.
So that's it folks. Thankfully Macs are still pretty much part of my world here in London.

Great to hear your stories, cuz. Am glad you're all settled in! And face it, if your mom and my mom somehow managed to become Mac users, your dad shouldn't be a hard nut to crack
I've been chatting regularly with this English dude, a graphic designer/Mac user/Canon enthusiast who lives outside of London. I'll hook you up with him as well, he's a nice guy and he might be a good person to keep in touch with. Like directx said, what's the name of your arts university again?

There is an Apple Store somewhere either in Piccadilly or Tottenham Court Road, if I am not mistaken. Have you been there? I know that there are shops along Tottenham Court Road that sell Apple computers as well.
Goldsmith College - ah, Director Dodge Dillague of "Debate with Mare and Pare" graduated from there. Look for Dr. Fe Abogadie (f.abogadie (at) ucl (dot) ac (dot) uk) to hook up with the Pinoy-UK folks. Incidentally, you a BC scholar?
