    Default Apple\'s build quality

Thought you folks might want a quick glance at an article about Apple's poor build quality. The article has a lot of valid points that I think about before endorsing a Mac to a friend. Needless to say Apple hardware hasnt been as solid as it used to be.

I kinda agree with the article, especially with the build quality problems plaguing recent Mac portables. However, the same can also be said for a lot of Wintel PC laptops. Mas obvious nga lang with Macs 'coz many people tend to expect more of Apple.

I'm just happy that my duallie's as solid as they come.

Valuable feedback from what seems to be a serious mac user. I hope Apple is listening. :2cents:

Looking at it another way, people may have unrealistically high build quality expectations seeming Apple & us users keep saying the hardware we use is more reliable & stable than PCs. Still happy with my setup though when I saw Apple's Motion it made realize my setup is quickly becoming less useful with current apps.

    Default apple\'s build quality

My brother-in-law (actually, my brother's brother-in-law, but let's not quibble) bought an Albook recently and one day found that it wouldn't boot. It took the Apple reseller over three weeks to isolate and solve the problem: defective memory chips. I suppose all's well that ends well, but I can't remember a new Powerbook I knew of ever misbehaving like this. The ones that would go on the blink were always a year or two old, never brand new. Something is indeed rotten in the state of Apple.

Three weeks to isolate a memory problem? I hope not all Apple resellers are like that. ;-)

Actually I was surprised too that it took so long. First they thought it was memory, then they tried to change the motherboard, (and had to wait for one to arrive from Singapore) and then when it would not boot again, went back to the RAM. Don't know all the details so maybe there are extenuating circumstances.

I'm happy I bought my book before the cheapy iBook became available. Which drives me to a conclusion that everything has a "price". You cannot expect lower priced items to be built the same as the earlier ones.

Its between product quality v.s. market share.
