Default Apple Cinema Displays - good buy ba?

    Hi muggers,

I would like to hear it from those who are lucky enough to have 20" or 23" Cinema Displays on their desks.. what I would like to know is if it's practical half-half solution in lieu of a 17" LCD from the Taiwanese manufacturers (for computing) and one of those 40" Plasma TV's from Pioneer or Sony (for home theatre)?

    Thanks.

Hi Jerry, I have the 20" ACD working in tandem with my 15"PB. I used to have one of those LG LCD's 15" linked to the PB, and it is a brighter display. For one, the colors are much much better, clear picture from practically all angles. Can't compare it to the 40" plasma displays, don't have one.....but are'nt those too big for a desktop monitor? hmmm....... what are you setting up? I find it kinda odd that you compare the ACD to the 40" plasma's.

Hi Derrick, how's everything? Well, just setting up a dual-use monitor for both DVD viewing with the kids and for working at home. I was hoping that I need not need to get an ACD AND a 40" plasma separately for work and play. Pero looking at your setup, it looks like one for each function.

    jerry,

contemplating bout the same thing. the recent price cuts on the Apple displays makes it even sweeter. but i havent had the chance to demo DVD movies on those. another option are the Samsungs LCD display with TV tuner. The 15" is about 500 US and the 17" is 600 US on the web. kaya lang its not widescreen. The Samsung SyncMaster 510MP/710MP looks good with a Mac mini. a nice TV/DVD/Computer Setup.

btw jerry, how much are you selling Canon 20D's ? u2u me please.

Nothing beats a good home theater set-up. But on days you have to work & play, ACD does the job..........minus the popcorn, chips, dips, colas......he he he:beer::beer::beer:

Notice the Genie effect on a dual monitor set-up. I use the left monitor sometimes for the x86 Peecee game/Mandrake Linux box. The monitor on the right is a Formac 17". I posted the desktop in the gallery (dual 17" off Nvidia card).

This setup works great for me, I web surf on the left and do imaging on the right (Formac). Dual 17" is a lot of real estate for movie editing, photoshop, office aps, html coding, and internet.

    its a good buy!
I've ordered 2 units for our G5's at the office for Photoshop editing/retouching.
Its even easier to calibrate even without the gadgets. (using MATAmeter...hehehehe...)

Why not try the BENQ 32 In LCD TV . I've heard from a freind that its good, the specs are quite competitive, the price is not bad either for its size. It's only around S$2400 (P72K+) here in Singapore. Maybe meron na din dyan sa atin.

In lieu of the ACD, I opted for the Dell 2005FPW.

It's the same LCD panel as Apple. It's also a lot cheaper (at least $200), supports portrait (swivel) mode and allows for multiple inputs (not just DVI) like S-Video, Composite, and standard VGA).
