While not as rampant as in the Windows scene, there are a number of "adware" for the Mac. Limewire is known to be one, and ICQ, AIM and such all carry "adware."

A worthwhile app to install to counteract spyware and other malware is "Little Snitch". It detects/blocks all outgoing suspicious packets.

I have been using little snitch for some time now and over the past few days I have reason to believe that MS office X has been phoning home without little snitch detecting it. MS office X has on several occasions prompted me to close the application. I have noticed in the settings of little snitch that some ports are left open for any application. Don't know if it has anything to do with this. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
