Repairing Permissions
I want to repair permissions after installing the 10.3.6 update.
I just have one question.
In Disk Utility my drive appears as follows
55.9 GB Fujitsu
Macintosh HD
I know they are one and the same thing. Why do they appear as two different drives? Both have options to repair permissions. Which one do I select to repairing permissions on.
I don't know if my question sounds stupid but I do need some help.
Thanks.

because you can partition your main drive (the 60 gig fujitsu) into several smaller "drives", in which case you would have more than the one "macintosh HD" that you have now. (and don't worry about partitioning and what it is--if you didn't think about it, you probably don't need it). just highlight the fujitsu drive and click on repair permissions.

If I may just add to this thread...
Is it advisable to do a repair permissions after every time you download or install new software/upgrades to you mac?
Secondly, what is Verify Permissions and how is that different from Repair Permissions? When do you use Verify Permissions?
Are there any other "maintenance" SOPs one should do to ensure that our macs stay well (happy and healthy
?

Verify or Repair?
In general, given the choice between the Verify or Repair buttons in Disk Utility, select Repair to save time. Verify only checks for problems. If problems are found, you then need to run the corresponding Repair. Repair both verifies and, if problems are found, attempts to perform the required repair. Accordingly, selecting the Repair button is more efficient.
