questions : airport express and printer

I've got a few questions about the airport express.

1. i have a wifi settings at home ( in manila ) i use a 3com 11g station. is the airport express just the same as a wireless access point?

2. is it plug and play.. err... plug on the power outlet and instant extended wifi range??

now for the printer

im living with my aunt here in BC. they have an old canon printer. it doesnt have a usb wire with it. how can i print stuffs from my powerbook? is there another kind of adaptor or something?
