Default Price of 256/512 Ram for the new powerbook?

I got a 256MB RAM upgrade for the new 15" Powerbook for 5K. Now I just checked the website of Villman and they are selling the 256MB PC333 DDR SDRAM 184pin for only PhP2600 and the 512MB for only PhP5200. Are these the exact type thats inside my powerbook? Was i ripped off?

I dont know the brand. Got the RAM upgrade from LMK together with the powerbook. Their initial price was 5500 haggled it down to 5K. So is the one on villman's website the same as the one installed in my powerbook?

Sorry to break it to you, but yes, I think you got ripped off. I normally purchase from MemoryX.com and the 512MB for your 15" is just a little above $100.

Also, doesn't the 15" come with 256MB already? If that's the case, it shouldn't be difficult to find 15" users here unloading their RAM after upgrading.

I still have a 128MB taken out of my 12". I'm actually giving it away for free to anyone who can find use for it.

Where did you purchase your 256MB?

I got the 256MB from LMK. I read somewhere that the Ram for the latest rev powerbooks is not compatible with the older powerbooks (1gz and below) Correct me if i am wrong. Also why buy from MemoryX.com when you can get it here cheaper. The 512 RAM sells for only 5,100 pesos at Villman. I dont know much about RAM. Are the RAM for notebooks the same as the ones for PC?

I think the 512 RAM that sells at Villman for only 5,100 pesos is for desktop computers, 184-pins. Powerbooks uses sodimms, which are 200-pins. Villman sells Kingston 256MB PC333 SODIMM for only P4500.

    DRU777,

Where did you see the P5200 512MB RAM? I took a peep at Villman and found P7999 instead.
    Here:

    SO-DIMM

Or you could have been looking at this instead:
    Regular PeeCee Desktop RAM

Id like to upgrade too and 5200 for 512MB is a good buy IMO.

    Cheers!

Give them a call, DRU777, to find out for sure. They may have sold you a branded 256MB RAM, which would explain the price.

I think in local apple dealers and stores sell the 256mb SODIMM around P4-5T, and 512mb P7-9500T Villman had no stocks for 2 months already, as I have called them every once in a while to check. If I have stocks, I usually sell the 512mb chip at P6800-7T brand new with warranty.

elbertc is right, ordering from the US directly will be cheaper. This has been discussed in other threads, sayang naka-save ka sana.

DRU777: What Mark and Randy said.

The 256MB and 512MB PC333 (actually PC2700/DDR333) DDR SDRAM you mentioned are for desktops, not laptops. SO-DIMM RAM modules (for laptops) are inherently more expensive than their desktop counterparts.

P5K is not a bad price for a 256MB PC2700 SO-DIMM module considering that 1.) you bought it locally; and 2.) you bought it from a Mac reseller, hehe. It's still cheaper than the $100 price when buying from the Apple Store. ;-) As Arel suggested, ask LMK about the brand of the RAM module. I reckon it's a quality module by Kingston, etc. or even an OEM Apple module manufactured by Samsung.

I agree with Elbert and Ditoy though. Buying online (especially from MemoryX) is the way to go. :-)
