Default newbie question: ibook and my books

im getting my first ever mac very very soon and i have a few questions for you guys... *excited

i got a very BIG bag from a company that names their bags really cool, so that means everything i bring would be with the ibook most of the time... these are books, notebooks, some manuals, pens, riding jacket, etc... most are heavy, hard bounded books...

is it a good idea to carry these altogether? i know that the notebook compartment is padded, but the side inside the bag has less padding than the 3 side (back portion and sides) making it less protected...

i don't know if im just being paranoid.. but have you heard of damaged notebooks due to books? hehehe

    praning ba? :P

Whenever I take my TiBook around or anything fragile for that matter, I put myself in the 'mind' of the laptop !! How would I feel if ...

Just meditate on the how the thin LCD screen would feel if ... !! and just go from there !! Praning of the constructive type is good !

    Cheers

hmm, i use my laptop bag as handcarry whenever i travel and i tend to stuff books and things that will keep me occupied during the plane rides and waits so my bag gets really full. so far nothing's happened to my ibook -- it runs perfectly although i think i've read somewhere that the ibook has quite a sturdy casing (someone correct me if i'm wrong) so maybe that has added protection pa. i think it depends on the books (are the hardbound and majorly heavy? etc) and on the bag itself. if you're super worried, you can perhaps get a padded sleeve nalang then put your laptop in it first then put the sleeve-protected laptop into another bag

    hope that helps!

and congrats on your future mac!!!

same here! i've had my ibook about 6 months now - i use a crumpler mcbain's, but it still gets bumped a lot when i commute especially when i'm in a hurry (yes, i commute with my ibook...scary no). aside from the normal scratches and swirls (naku, be prepared...if you're paranoid NOW wait till you see the first scratch! but don't worry...sir butch will assure you again and again that these are NORMAL!!! :P) my ibook's still perfect.

    congrats in advance...!

My experience with my iBook is that it is easy to scratch... So better make sure the bag has a divider that separates "your precious" to the "non-essentials"... Enjoy your Mac!!!:beer::beer:

hi poink! how is the padding of the mcbain's? is it good enough to protect your ibook? im thinking getting myself one but im still choosing between that and an STM alley bag. btw, what size is your mcbain if you're using a 12 ibook? i assume it's a small size right?

yeah, i'm using the smallest one hehe, for my 12" ibook. it's padded enough, i feel safe carrying it around, (think MRT, LRT, jeep... ) so far no complaints yet, except for space. it can hold my ibook, coolpad, mouse/earphones/adapter and 3M rag but not much else (sometimes i stuff some xeroxed readings in there), so if you plan to bring more than just the bare essentials, i suggest you get the STM. [i use a seperate bag for kikay stuff haha]

the crumpler crippy duck is pretty good too; that's what i use when i have to bring a lot, and there's a separate compartment for the 'book. but i agree with diane, the mcbain's baby is also really great when you only have to bring th eessentials happy bag shopping! :P

diane, you don't get scared carrying your ibook around when you commute? haha i get scared bringing it anywhere outside that isn't a house (or school, before) :P

i'd advise you put your ibook first in a good sleeve like radtech powersleevz, and then that one inside a slightly thicker sleeve made of hi-impact rubber. then you can stash it inside your bag with all those other stuff. it's good to carry a bag that doesn't look like a laptop bag. no ned to announce to all and sundry that you're carrying a mac and get robbed, right?

poink: thanks for the advise. i usually bring the essentials only except that my mouse is quite big. can't wait for my friend to buy me a crumpler bag in singapore. they say it's so much cheaper there.
