Default my mac keeps on restarting

    hello mac users
yesterday i went ynzal and had a harddrive install and a mac 0s9 so that my canon scanner can run.
i had a video card installed but did not run so i did not get it.
also i had a canopus advc 1394 installed but no driver and so they took it out again.
when i arrived home i had the canon scanner installed and so it worked.
last night i saw my mac was on. so it shut it down. the power went off and then it started again. it shut it down again and it started again.
what do you think is the problem and the solution. the only time i could shut down the mac is when i know it has really shut down and then pull the plug. one thing i noticed is when you plug it in it remains to be off not until you press the power button.

what kind of Mac do you have? Have you tried taking out all peripherals and seeing if the behaviour goes away?

it seems to me that for some reason, the restart command is being invoked rather than shut down. pardon my asking the obvious (the easiest suspects to get rid of), but are you sure it really had shut down and wasn't just sleeping? does it go through the whole boot-up process? is there a cd in the drive (like the mac os x installer disc, which makes itself the boot disk) that will cause a restart loop if you shut the computer down?

please tell us what kind of computer you have--it might help. and yes, the computer will remain off unless you press the power button. (except in an old powerbook like the duo, where a long period of inactivity might strangely result in the computer coming on immediately after being plugged in.)

Default i think i have it solved

my mac is the g4 powermac 1.2ghz. 1gb ram, dvdrw.
i think i have solved it in a way. there was an advice that i turn off my monitor which was connected to the tower of the powermac. when i was about to shut it down once i click shutdown i turn off my monitor too. it seemed to work. it does not restart anymore.

Try attaching the powercord of the monitor directly to your powerstrip/outlet/avr. Maybe the additional power that the monitor is sucking up from the tower is causing it. Also maybe the monitor isnt energy saver compliant.
    Cheers!
