Monitor for photography.
Ok, I've made the switch and gotten my G5 today (more of a homecoming actually, I started on a Mac Classic...). I got it for my photography and film work.
Since I have no plans of getting the Mac flat displays, what monitor would you guys recommend for the work I do? Do I invest in a Viewsonic or Sony, or make do with an AOC (and just make sure I calibrate often)?
Watcha think?

No.. pls. no AOC on a G5!!!!
Though it's a good monitor, medyo me brand naman like Sony, NEC or Mitsubishi Monitors. Your G5 is worth more than an AOC.
Find a flat CRT monitor not below 19" that has full DVI support.

Hi Mike, thanks for the quick reply. So one point against the olats monitor. I've been trying to find reviews online, Samsung monitors seem to be getting good reviews. I'll check it out, along with your recommendations
Oh and I posted that question with my PC laptop. I'm now replying via my new Mac. Woohoo....

I'm currently using a Samsung SyncMaster on a G4... not bad at all. You could look for reviews at tomshardware.com or anandtech. Both are PC review site but are more than useful in more ways than one.
Or check macreviewzone.com for various monitor ratings.

i would suggest one with room for calibration and adjustments.. check the specs and see if they do offer those.
you wouldnt want to end up with a monitor of bad colors and you cant even fix it :P

Same here. :-)
I'm actually using an AOC 9Klr (19" ) with my duallie G4. IMHO, it's pretty good for the price (P8,750 as of today). 1280x1024@85Hz and 1600x1200@75Hz (better than a number of more expensive mid-range models from Viewsonic, etc.); perfectly-flat screen; anti-glare coating; great color reproduction even with just software calibration; etc. etc. I've had it for about two years now with nary a problem.
Admittedly, equivalent 19" monitors from Sony, etc. are a bit better but they cost a hell of a lot more. And frankly, I couldn't even notice the difference in picture quality. ;-)
BTW, if you're thinking of buying a 19" CRT monitor, pay attention to the refresh rate at 1280x1024 (ideal resolution for 19 inchers). Minimum should be 85Hz (the higher the better). Anything below that and you're bound to get headaches from the flicker (and you won't be doing your eyes any favor). If you're wary of buying an AOC monitor, just spend an additional P5,000 for a Viewsonic G90f+. It can do 1280x1024@89Hz. An even better option is the Viewsonic P95f+ for around P17,000. 1200x1024 (probably a typo, should be 1280x1024) at 101Hz. :-)

Henjie,
You got me thinking about those AOCs again... Viewsonic has the reputation and the price to match. I'll give it a thought. Thanks!
