Default menu icons turns into folders?

The icons on my wife's ibook turned into folders. I tried the pram thing and it corrected the preference problems but the icons stil remained folders. How do I turn them back into icons?

what do you mean? these are, indeed, folders. the individual apps and files within them will carry the original icons.

On my wife's ibook they aren't icons but folders. It shows up as folders instead of icons. They have no pictures just plain folders.

okay, you need to rebuild your desktop. try this freeware utility (download it from versiontracker using the link below):

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19656

PS / oops, tried downloading it myself and it looks like it's no longer available. at any rate, go to versiontracker.com and look for "rebuild desktop". there's another freeware app there that might work.
