    Default Mail client

Hi all. Ive just recently converted to mac. Ive been wondering. I got my trial .mac account and used it on the built in mail client in OSX. I can receive messages but i cant send any out. It always says that "smtp.mac.com port 25 has timed out" or something like that? can anyone tell me what ive been doing wrong? why cant i send mail?

Hi pe101ndrich. welcome to PhilMUG and the world of Macs.

It really all depends on your ISP. Some ISP's don't allow other SMTPs to go through except their own. Some allow other SMTP's only if it's password authenticated (which .mac is). There are also some iSPs that allow any SMTP to go through.

In order for me to answer your question, I need to know which ISP you are using.
