First, DWIN888, you'll have to help us out here by letting us know what you'll be using your laptop for. Video, etc.? Then & only then will we be in a better position to give our suggestions. Thank you!

I would personally recommend a 15" 1.5 Ghz SuperDrive if you do video and music on the side, since as you mentioned you can get discounts on your purchase.

The 15" has the same specs as the 17" inch minus the megawide display...which you should also consider if you do professional DV/Audio editing. You would benefit from the 1440x900 display for your timeline editing needs.

You might wan't to sell your 3 month old laptop, coz I'm sure you gonna love OS X and the whole Mac experience.

I do play games on the Mac and also on my Wintel PC. We all know that naturally game developers will relase their games on windows box first due to market reasons, but this does not stop me from playing games on my Mac.

Personally, I would rather invest on a desktop since I can upgrade my video card once in a while. That goes both for the Mac and my Wintel rig.

Off the bat, I would say that the 12" PowerBook is a more powerful machine overall but the 12" iBook G4 has better battery life and might be a bit sturdier Either way, they're both very capable machines. Just make sure you bump up your RAM, Mac OS X feels a lot better with at least 512MB.

ok, after thinkin about it the whole day.. im goin to retain my laptop and still get a mac!! yipee!! now as i've been searchin the apple canada site.. the stock 12 inch ibook goes at arnd 1,400 CAN. and the stock 12 inch powerbook goes at around 1,900 CAN. now u think the 500 dollar diff is worth it, if i choose the pb.. and do u think that the 256 ram is not enough?? oh btw these prices are wid education discount!! yeaaaaahhhh

Take it for a spin. If you feel the iBook or pBook is sluggish with the stock 256MB of memory, buy a 512MB or 1GB chip
