Default i can\'t empty my trash

i can't empty my trash...not that it's really a big deal right now. i'm just curious what pipedaemon is? my trashcan has "trash" in it, but when i open it it's empty! and when i try to Empty Trash, it shows THIS:

anyway, all i did was trash the HP all-in-one printer stuff my friend installed last march coz i don't have that printer anyway, and it always pops up annoyingly.

also, i did this because i wanted to clear my printers...er...stuff, coz when i first got my iBook i was able to connect our HP deskjet 3550 and print without installing anything, i just connect the USB and print, but now i can't, it just says no driver installed.

    Hi Poink,

It means that Pipedaemon which I take you want to get rid off is still running in the background and doing something so you cannot trash it unless you stop whatever it is doing ! Try an option+command+esc to force quit and see if it is there.

Or you can restart and then try it again.

this happened to me once before, but the itme in question was actually in the trash, but it was being used daw so it can't be trashed. so what i did was to drag the item back to the desktop, open it with text edit, and then delete all characters in it, creating a simple document that's empty. then i trashed it na, and i was able to empty my trash na.

i think you have to locate where that file is first, then quit the application that's using it. if all else fails, and you don't need the file anymore anyway, try doing what i did.

hi guys...thanx so much for the replies. i was able to empty my trash after turning my ibook off, then on again. what i'm just curious about is:

    what IS "pipedaemon"?
why didn't it show up when i opened the trashcan, even though it said "1 item" in it?
and why didn't "pipedaemon" show up when i tried to Find it. i mean, stuff in the trash still shows up when you search for it right? this one...well. 0 results. weeeirrd.

the file could be a hidden file.. there's a setting in finder that lets you view all hidden/invisible files if i'm not mistaken
