you might want to use extensis suitcase x1. i prefer it over font book. but if you don't have suitcase, try opening font book and then opening your font using it using file/add fonts.

Use Font Book found in your Applications folder. For complete instructions use Mac help in your finder and key in the word fonts.

For the direct route, I believe you can still drop them in your Library/Fonts folder, although using Font Book is the recommended method under Panther.

In OSX there are several separate places were fonts are stored.
1 OS9 System folder these are called Classic Fonts.
2 The fonts inside System/Library/Fonts folder inside the OSX system folder on your hard disk. These are called the System Fonts and better left alone.
3 The next fonts folder would be in Library/Fonts at the top level of your hard disk. This can be modified and are availabel to anyone who logs in. Referred to as the Local Fonts.
4 Then there is your personal fonts in Users[your name]/Library/Fonts called the Users Fonts
5 Fonts used by individual applications ussually found in the application support folder
6 Finally the Fonts in the Network/Library/Fonts Folder.

    guys,
may i give a warning or advice, i have installed fonts in my iBook, i use it for my graphic whatever chuva.. after which i have been experiencing shutdowns in some applications and had led me to reformat my system. i just thought that maybe some of the permissions made my ibook confused or whatsoever.. maybe it could be the cause, now, i never install anything to it's inner system files..

    just a thought..

i've decided to resurrect this thread for the Tiger/ Suitcase users:

i don't suitcase x1 so i was hopeful that my version of suitcase would coexist with tiger peacefully. Unfortunately it doesn't so now my 1500++ fonts lovingly catalogued in a entire weeked was rendered useless when i upgraded to tiger.

i was thinking of upgrading to x1 but i heard that it causes more problems than it does with font management.

now that leaves me with using font book.

i've been told that i can install my fonts (i'm prolly using around 200-400 fonts from my collection anyway) in fontbook but it will slow down loading of my main apps (illustrator & PS) like crazy.

add that to tiger's ram usage so i could be slowing down my pbook substantially.

so any suggestions? (font book or suitcase x1)?

The whole purpose of a font management software is to activate fonts only when needed. The fonts are in the hard disk but not activated. This would avoid crawling start-ups for both system and applications.
