    Default Help! Spinning Rainbow Icon

i think i'm gonna need your help.

i was transferring files from my 12" AlPb to my Apacer usb thumbdrive. i opened two finder windows: one showing the files in my pb which i wanted to transfer, and another showing the destination folder in my thumbdrive.

the first file (an excel file) was transferred without a hitch.
the second file (a powerpoint file) did not have the same icon displayed in the finder window of the the thumbdrive. so i clicked on the file. a message said that the file could not be opened because it was being used by my OS X. then this spinning rainbow icon appeared and its been spinning for the past 15 minutes.

    what should i do?

i think the finder menu just got confused. remember when transferring files from and to an external drive, go easy on your mouse and let the transfer finish completely...

press "option+apple+esc" and then relaunch the finder menu...

    i hope this helps...

i pressed "option+apple+esc" and relaunched... nothing happened. i pressed "option+apple+esc" again and it said that Finder is not responding. i relaunched finder, and still no response...

try going to the Activity Monitor. Select All Processes and see if you can quit the process that is not functioning. "Command+Option+Escape" doesn't seem to show all processes running unlike Activity Monitor. :2cents:

i was able to use activity monitor to force quit finder.

there seems to be a problem with my thumbdrive. finder hangs whenever i try to copy a file from my AlPb to my thumbdrive. is there a way to fix this? is it possible to reformat a thumbdrive?
