    Default Finding Mac

    good day to all!!!

i've been researching about macs.. since i'm very much intrigued why big gfx n broadcast companies use macs for their editing n gfx production.

im a PC user since i started to learn about computers...

thus, i would like to ask, what are the things to consider b4 i buy a mac, esp. a setup for video editing?

i would like to have my hands on powerbooks, but it's too costy for me, so just wanted to know if ibooks can be of use for video editing? (we use PCs in our video editing, using AVID Express DV)

does an ibook packed w/ final cut already, or still hav 2 purchase it separately?

can an ordinary external HDD be connected to a mac?

tnx, more power to the thread, and i hope that i can be an official Filipino Mac User, in the near future!!!

    hello brainiac, welcome to Philmug

Things to consider? Depends primarily on your budget. If you need some serious rendering horsepower, a powermac G5 (single processor) 1.8 will cost less than 100k, with stock 256 ram and hd. Or an iMac G5 would be nice too.

If portable is what you had in mind, then an iBook 1.25ghz might suffice, which can also be had for less than 100k here. Yes its very much capable of doing DV editing with FCP, FCP Express, or iMovie. You can do your editing using FCP offline RT feature then when you get back to the office, just plug in for automatic online rendering. Call up your nearest mac reseller

You legally have to buy it separately.

I haven't come across any external HD being incompatible with macs, but I've heard there are, so yes it is possible as long as the external enclosure is compatible, which most are. A lot of us 'muggers use external HD here.

You can go to any Apple Center and try out their demo macs.
