.dat to .mpeg
hi!
there's this really funny video clip of my friend's vacation from about three years ago that i want to be able to send to our friends through email, but on the cd-r it's a .dat file. everytime i try to convert it to .mpeg using Stuffit's DropZip, it says there's a bad media.
how can i transfer .dat files from cds to my laptop in .mpeg format? is this even possiblE?
thanks.

Use VCDgear X if you're still having problems.

Re: .dat to .mpeg
i know you're using your mac.
but maybe, yu can use your windows for a while then try your conversion with windows movie maker 2.0.
ps: it has to be windows movie maker _2.0_. not 1.0 whatsoever.
then there yu have it.

There's VCD Gear for Mac? This is great! I was about to suggest to use Windows first and try VCD Gear... now I can also do it under Mac!
Thanks for this

Re: .dat to .mpeg
Just rename the AVSEQ01.DAT file to *.mpg and be done with it. VCD .DAT files are basically MPEG files with slight differences in the header info - renaming will allow you to play back the file with nearly any media player capable of playing back MPEG.

Re: .dat to .mpeg
Hi maryannemoll! What I usually do is replace the .dat file extension with .mpg
Confirm "Use .mpg" and that's it. You'll then see the file icon switch to a Quicktime icon. I hope this helps.
