    Default Color Calibration

I wonder if any of the graphic/web desingers here can help me out? I'm starting to use my powerbook more and more for work but I noticed that the colors between my PC and MAC are very different. How do I calibrate them both so that they at least produce similar colors. I want to be able to work on my mac, do designs there and still produce consistent colors for the PC since majority of my clients are PC based.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is there a company in the Philippines that specializes in providing professional color calibration and color management consultation to photographers, graphic designers and industry professionals?

If you've got cash, this is a cheap (if you call $169 cheap), but very effective calibrator. Can be used on both CRT and LCD monitors as well.

There was one guy who calibrated my laptop for free before at the Graphic Expo (he used it to demo the service) but since that demo, my LCD hasnt been calibrated.

Do you also need to calibrate digital cameras? or only adjust the screen to the output of the camera? I noticed kasi that in DPReview.com, they always come out with these sample ?color bands? (is that what they call them?) for each and every camera.

There is also Monaco Optix which I've read is better than ColorVision as it also measures/accounts the ambient light in your work environment - not just the monitor/lcd. And they have a local distibutor here.

    Cheers!

    Hi Randy!

I actually use the Monaco Optix XR with the EZColor software. It's a great package, you can calibrate LCDs, CRTs, Scanners and Printers. I've used it to calibrate everything, from my flatbed to the LCD to the printer.

    Juan,

As for calibrating between PCs and Macs (the original topic), the two begin with different native gamma points, 1.8 (Mac) and 2.2 (Windows). Use the same software to calibrate. Then get the file from the PC and transfer it to your Mac. Use that profile when you "soft proof" your images.

The Monaco EZColor software will work on both Mac and Windows.

    Hope that helps.

Do you think it's a good business idea if a company exists to provide professional color management and calibration support in Manila to photographers, color separators, billboard production outfits, offset and digital printers, and others--keeping everyone on the same color palette? Everyone can subscribe to his service and despite the differences in our gears, equipment and styles, we will be all be looking and seeing the same colors? If there's one such company, would you subcribe to the special services of this "color specialists"?

Yes, I'd definitely subscribe to this service. Being an small and independent organization, I don't want my people to use up all their time making sure everthing is calibrated. Plus we don't have that much cash to buy the calibrating equipments and software. It would be great if a company like this can provide calibration services.

dominique and chairman, actually there is a local company that carries Gretag Macbeth, industry standard in color management specially for prints. The company name is Morechem Corporation. You might want to check them out. The last time saw them was at the recent Graphic Expo. I think they can do the calibration and color management for all your equipments if you think you can't afford to buy the equipments. Call 7421081 or 7420754

    Hope this helps.

Hacksaw, I called a couple of companies to do a demo of their products and services here at my studio. They will be conducting the demo this coming week.
