Default busted logic board: best thing to do?

hi guys, i just found out today that my ibooks logic board might be busted. Ofcourse my ibook is already out of warranty, and i am not about to spend 50k to have it replaced.

Whats the best thing i should do with this system? Can i sell its parts, to lessen my cash out for another ibook? Are there people who buys these things (almost hopeless laptops)?

sigh...surely i wont be able to sleep well tonight cos of this.

check your serial no. It might fall under the extended logic board repair program for ibooks. here's the address : http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/

I don't think he can avail of the ibook logic repair program anymore. He's out of the warranty period already. Bummer man

Maybe he can as the problem involves defective parts, and the serial nos. covered are for units that appear to be more than a year old. Either way check the apple support page and look if your serial no. is covered You can check it by clicking the blue apple in the menu bar and clicking about this mac, then more info

@ potemkin: Oh, that's right. It says that units (even those out of the 1 year warranty) that have defective logic boards are covered for three years from the retail sale. So it would be better to visit an apple center near you to have your ibook diagnosed. Click the link provided by amont for further details.

@ amont: thanks for the clarification

Check another dealer. Not all dealers are that savvy or committed to giving good service. I've read here that some are better than others. If your serial is
covered they should honor the warranty, Better yet print out the warranty and show them.

that just means she doesn't know. print out the notice and show it to charlie (who owns the place); i'm sure he'll honor the deal.

potemkin, if your serial number falls within the accepted range, then you don't have a problem. Your Logic Board will be replaced. Try to find out the name of the lady who informed you that it's not covered, then U2U me. Thanks.
