i recently got a MacBook, and it came with Boot Camp pre-installed. i really have no need for Windows on my machine and i'd much rather get the hard drive space back, so does anyone know how i can uninstall Boot Camp? i tried Googling but strangely enough, i couldn't find anything helpful. one site says i have to look for the Boot Camp Assistant under /Applications/Utilities but there's no such program installed on my MacBook. help? TIA
In case the previous owner installed the utility in a different location, go to the Spotlight icon at the upper right corner of your MacBook and search for Boot Camp Assistant. Click on that app if it shows up. (If none, just download the Bootcamp installer at http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/. Install it and run it)
Then choose option 3 to Restore volume to a single drive thus erasing the windows partition.
In addition, if you find Ditoy's instructions complicated, you should go back to your reseller and have them remove it. BootCamp is a user-installable application, no reseller should be pre-installing it without the buyer's consent. I'm assuming, of course, that your reseller was the one who placed it there in the first place.
There are two ways to verify if you have a windows partition:
- If 2 volumes appear on your desktop, see attachment.
- Holding the OPTION key before the Mac logo appears upon bootup will also show you a Windows partition if it is actually in your system.
Hi. I have decided to run Parallels Desktop instead for my Windows needs instead of rebooting everytime to use Windows. Anyway how can I delete the Windows partition to reclaim the HDD space? Many thanks!
Run Bootcamp again under Apps-Utilities. There will be an option there to restore drive to a single Mac partition, erasing the previous Windows installation.
