Steve Jobs demo's NextSTEP 3.0
z80 writes "Back in the golden days of NeXT, Steve Jobs himself decided to do a demo video, about 30 minutes long, where he demonstrates the applications, networking abilities and development tools in NeXTSTEP 3.0. Thanks to a australian member of our forum we have now been able to take the NTSC copy of this tape and import it to a MPEG-4 file. The video is available here: http://www.openstep.se/jobs/
As an OS X convert, something to appreciate.

This is basically the grand daddy of Mac OSX.
So true that Jobs is 10 years beyond his time.

P.S. Was that Spotlight technology when he attempted to search for 'Perot' and 'Bush'?

This video provides a nice sense of history to our favorite operating system and GUI. Nice find!
NEXT lives on in OSX (Aqua) and the unix window manager Window Maker. Here's an excerpt from Window Maker's intro.
Window Maker is an X11 window manager originally designed to provide integration support for the GNUstep Desktop Environment. In every way possible, it reproduces the elegant look and feel of the NEXTSTEP[tm] user interface. It is fast, feature rich, easy to configure, and easy to use. It is also free software, with contributions being made by programmers from around the world.
Check out the gallery. In an alternate universe, that might be our OSX interface. :P

OpenSTEP was supposed to be used by IBM instead of Windows. Too bad Steve took his time...
