My webhost, Netrillium, is great so far and their tech support is awesome.Though I am not exactly sure what you mean by Mac-friendly, heheh. Anyway, I also recommend Host Rocket. You can also check out FreeWebspace.Net for reviews of both free and paid webhosts.
Hi HAL9000 -- I advise you to be very careful in selecting a budget web host (any host that offers significant services for $100 a year or less is considered "budget" ). Many budget web hosts promise a lot of bang for your buck, but don't deliver one way or another. Typical problems with budget hosts include: slow FTP, slow processing of CGI and PHP scripts, frequent unscheduled downtime, data loss, etc. Jiru-chan is right -- read reviews and user comments from people who are already actual users/clients of the host you're considering. Focus on the features that are important to you, and determine if the host provides that.
I have been very happy with Lunarpages.com. It's the host of PinoyMac.org, a web site that I administer. I get 800Mb storage space, 40Gb monthly bandwidth allowance, CGI, PHP and MySQL support, shopping cart, unlimited email addresses, full cPanel control over all aspects of my account, and much more. In over 10 months of operation, we've only had one hour of downtime, and that was only because the host changed a configuration that broke one of our scripts. It's the #2 ranked web host in the US, and the basic package costs only US$7.95 a month. Can't beat it, IMHO.

again, gonz, youve never failed to amaze me in terms of helpfulness
ill be looking into the recommends for the rest of the week. netrillium looks good. the current webhost i have now (i wont name names) wont take direct / live updates through dreamweaver. and for some reason all the folders uploaded have either the ".ds_store" or "finder.dat" files in it (i use transmit) which are mac os 9/X specific desktop datafiles.
youre right in the budget webhost as i have seen some offering less than $5 / month. my needs at the moment are at least 200mb space, unlimited bandwidth, tons of pop email. how much are you paying for your account gonz? you can u2u it to me if youd rather keep it private.
thanks!

I've got the basic hosting plan, called the "Shuttle Hosting Plan," and it costs me $7.95 a month, paid a year in advance. I have no complaints whatsoever about Lunarpages.com. They also have great tech support -- I can always get somebody on the phone during office hours (not some lame voicemail/we'll call you back jazz), and their techs are very knowledgeable, patient and pleasant to talk to. Very eager to please. I like dealing with their company.
Hi guys,
Yes, I'm also looking for webhosting that does direct / live updates through dreamweaver. I'm using a local webhost but the email is kinda weird, they use 3 different email choices = neomail, squirrelmail and horde which is more or less faulty at some point or another, for mysterious reasons. The webhost expected I'd upload via his web ftp - huh? No way! Hence the search for a better hosting package elseplace.
"and for some reason all the folders uploaded have either the ".ds_store" or "finder.dat" files in it (i use transmit) which are mac os 9/X specific desktop datafiles."
Stinks of...PCees! oh dear. Hal, lunarpages sounds good. Thanks for the lead, Gonz!
Or, Hal, if at the moment you're still stuck on the nameless webhost you're currently using, try this ftp sequence for Dreamweaver:
ftp host: ftp:sitename.com
host directory: public_html/
Login: yourlogin
Password: yourpassword
check Use passive FTP if you'r running your OS X firewall.
Hit "Test"
Good luck!
Cherrie

Most of the sites I've developed and are maintaining are hosted at IpowerWeb, despite some crappy reviews they've had in some sites, I have yet to experience anything that will convince me to shift. 2 clients have renewed recently to another 2 years of hosting, so I guess they're pretty happy with that.
Tech support is good. Given that I've only corresponded through email, they've usually responded pretty quick.
Hi, I'm looking for a new, mac-friendly, hosting company. does anyone here use www.techhive.net?
would appreciate any info on them.
thanks!
mac based web hosting "usually" cost more than its Linux, Windows counterparts.
if you can afford - i recommend this > http://www.macdock.com/
