Default Instant Messaging Applications [was "Yahoo Messenger"]

    Hi guys,
I just got my powerbook g4 (second hand) from my brother hehe...yey .. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you could suggest a good instant messaging program asides from Yahoo Messenger because the most up to date version of this program version is 2.5.3 for Macs, which does not include photo images, voice emotes, etc. Plus, I'm experiencing a lot of errors and few options in searching and adding friends (i.e. entering the person's YM ID is the only option available when adding/searching for friends) Due to this, my friends and I are annoyed when I can't message him/her properly. I was also wondering if there's a software that could still let me chat with my YM buddies even though i'm using a different software. (I hope there is)
Thanks and have a wonderful Holy Week

    - Kris

You can also try Adium. Adium even lets you connect to aim, yahoo, msn, icq, googletalk, etc. all at the same time. And it's free!

I use Proteus. Much like Adium, it connects to multiple IM servers like AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, etc. It supports file transfers and I like the way it integrates with Mac OS X's Address Book (you can enter the contact's IM userIDs in Address Book and Proteus automatically updates it's contact list, displaying the contact's name instead of the userid). Best of all, it's now free.

zOMG! Adium is cool. I'm having a hard time picking the colors and format that suit me though hehe... You can also edit the sounds of people messaging you... i'm thinking of using YM.. I like YM's sounds... very attention getting... As for Proteus, I'll look it up, maybe it's better than Adium... i'll post any feedbacks, insights I get from these 2 cool instant messaging programs..
Hedges, I also use skype, but I usually use it to for long-distance

    Thanks everyone! Big help. Peace
