Yes, but it takes much longer and uses a lot of bandwidth.

There are also four other problems:

    1) Since you are going online to update an unpatched computer, the computer is vulnerable to hacks from the outside world.

    2) If you're updating several computers, or dozens, or hundreds, it will suck up the installation's bandwidth and take a loooooong time. Autopatcher was, as the name implies, something you would run on a computer and it would intelligently patch everything the computer needs, without going online, at least until the computer has had the latest patches installed.

    3) The computer may not be an online computer, or the installation may not have Internet access.

    4) The computer may have problems that prevent it from going online. Problems that could be fixed by an updater tool such as Autopatcher.

Thanks for the tip, at least I'm updated until end-August.

It's when September comes around that I'll start worrying.

BTW, I was able to run Autopatcher on a clunky new Vista OEM install on an HP laptop. It was bugs galore when the laptop came out of a the box, but running the Autopatcher Vista updater fixed everything and it runs faster and better.

Went to the site and saw this....

Today we received an e-mail from Microsoft, requesting the immediate take-down of the download page, which of course means that AutoPatcher is probably history. As much as we disagree, we can do very little, and although the download page is merely a collection of mirrors, we took the download page down.

We would like to thank you for your support. For the past 4 years, it has been a blast. Unfortunately, it seems like it's the end of AutoPatcher as we know it.

Microsoft said that people looking for updates should use Windows updates or subscribe $$$ to their Software Update Service. More money to fix bugs in their OS? Ugh.
