A lot of people (myself included) are looking forward to the introduction of Google's Gmail web-based email service later this year, particularly because the attraction of Gmail is that it offers one gigabyte of email storage absolutely free, and this one gig of data is readily searchable using Google's own tried-and-tested search algorithms. Never delete an email again!
Well, I was browsing the net earlier and read a humorous article about how Gmail suffered a glitch that briefly increased the storage capacity of individual user mailboxes from 1 gigabyte to ONE TERABYTE. Wahahahaha. Who cares about storing email, you could store your entire hard disk on Google's servers, with lots and lots of room left over!
So anyway, the point of my post: how BADLY do people want to be part of Gmail's by-invitation-only beta testing program?
Here are some of the more bizarre actual items being offered for barter in exchange for beta testers' unused Gmail accounts:
a pair of Apple Pro speakers
borrow a car for a week
a pot of fresh, home-style spaghetti sauce, shipped in dry ice
an original remix of a song of your choosing
an authentic Bible signed by Jesus
a gold couch from the 70s
french horn lessons in South Korea
one human soul
Check out the site (www.gmailswap.com) I linked to above. It's hilarious!
