About LinkBacksI have an external 250GB HD that I've been using the past few years. A few months ago, whenever I switched it on, it was making a beeping sound. It would only hum and come to life after a few attempts at switching on and off and pulling the firewire cable in and out of the port.
Yesterday morning the HD mounted but this afternoon, after a power outage, it would no longer mount. I am afraid my data may have been damaged/lost. What can I do? I tried Disk Utility and Disk Warrior but it could not repair the HD. I tried the USB port but got the same results. Can the data still be retrieved?
I transferred most of my files from my powerbook to the external HD to transfer to my macbook.
Help!

Re: External HD won't mount! You should've stopped using that hard disk when you noticed something out of the ordinary. That goes for ANY hard disk, whether internal or external. The beeping sound was already a warning that there could be something wrong with the hd.
Your best bet is to call Christopher Tan at 4118914. They do data recovery at a reasonable price.Mac Switcher since February 24, 2003

Re: External HD won't mount! My external hard disk has come back to life with all files intact!! Hooray!! The problem was the enclosure. Because of this, the idrectory of the drive was damaged. Disk Utility and Disk Warrior could not repair the drive but lo and behold, a software called Drive Genius did the trick in rebuilding my drive. Now, with my replacement enclosure and rebuilt directory, my external HD is humming smoothly.
