    Default os 9.2 help!

i'm trying to install os x on a powerbook pismo. but when i insert the disc in the dvd drive, i can't seem to find the contents of it. my question is:

how do i locate the cd/file contents in the drive?

i'm not very familiar with os 9 classic. in os x, i just double click on my hard drive on the desktop and i automatically see the contents of the drive, including the combo drive. but with os 9, how?

    TIA

Insert the CD in the drive and reboot while holding 'C' in your keyboard. This will boot from your CD-ROM drive.

BTW, are you sure its a OS 9 installer you have their? You should be able to see it on your OS X ibook when you mount it.

thanks mike. but how do i know my disc is the os 9 installer? i tried to mount it on my ibook and it says, "mac os x install disc 1"

will i be able to use this to upgrade my pismo which is currently running os 9.2?

yes, that's the one (and there'll be discs 2 and 3) you need to upgrade to OS X. do as mike says and it'll take over from there. it should recognize the fact that you already have 9.2, and will use that for classic later on.

well, the other way is to mount that cd, which should open just like any other CD, and you'll find an icon which says "install OSX" or something like it, and you click on that and the mac should then restart on its own using the CD as a boot disk. if it doesn't do that, then something is likely wrong with either the CD or your CD drive.

Currently you are running os 9.2, just insert the OS X CD 1 in your Pismo CD drive.. and it should show in front of you once you see the CD icon. Double click the CD icon and double click again 'install OS X'.

now i think i'm really lost. i don't know if the dvd drive of my pismo is defective or what, because when i insert the OS X install cd, nothing happens. which brings me to my original question on this thread, "how do i locate the cd/file/contents of my dvd drive?"

it seems that the reason why i can't mount my install cd on the pismo is because the dvd drive of the pismo is not supported under os x. so, i'd like to ask anybody out there if there is a pismo that came with just a cdrom drive instead of a dvd drive. i am currently looking for a solution to install/upgrade os x on the pismo by using a cdrom drive (external/drive bay) instead of the dvd drive.
