Well, I'm sure if you post a LF ad in the marketplace, you'll be able to find someone willing to part with the software for a song. Not many people are using OS 9, which means there's many unused Office licenses out there.

    Otherwise, there's always eBay.

Licenses for Office 98 (Mac OS 7.5.5 - 9.2.2) and Office 2001 (Mac OS 8.1 - 9.22) can be found on the second hand market. 98 is around P2-3T and 2001 is around P4T.

Word 5.1 (the best Word version for Classic Mac OS) can be found at around P500-P900, but they're not that easy to find.

When buying used software, make sure the original CDs (even if they no longer work) and license document are included in the package. Have the seller sign a simple document transferring the licensing rights to you.

Avoid Office 4.x (Word 6.x, Excel 5.x, PowerPoint 4.x) for mac, it was a disaster.

AppleWorks 5.x and 6.x also work great on Classic Mac OS.

WordPerfect 3.5 for Mac is an excellent word processor that some say is better than Word. It was made freeware by Corel and can be found here.

Hi Maccess. Thanks very much! I got my hands on an old imac that has OS 9 and my current pastime is reviving it and making it "useful" again.

Sometimes, it's hard to work on OS X because with so many bells and whistles and nice things on it, I get distracted , and I find myself not working for the same length of time as I would on a computer with less nice things. I don't know if it's just me, though, but until I fully train myself to just work and not play with all the goodies OS X has to offer, I'm reviving the old imac (which I'll keep beside the imac with OSX, so I can just swivel my chair if I need either...oops, that might defeat the purpose of everything). I also like the idea of bringing back old computers and making them productive again, extending their lifespan. Thanks again!

    Dear krgy,

I have a lot of OS 9 stuff...I just moved office so I've seen them all and has discarded
(thrown) much of it...I'm just giving them you since you seem to have a "noble cause"
but give me til next week to sort all things out. I got them when I got my Imac
which am still using but has upgraded to OSX. SMS me at 0918 902 1993.

Hi mymy! Thanks! I'll text you next week.

It's going to come in very useful now because, sadly the mac in the office that uses OSX has been reassigned to someone else. So technically, I'm no longer an OSX mac user at the office, and haven't been one for a couple of months now. I've been reassigned a PC. Sigh.

So the only right I have to be at philmug really is that old imac with OS9, which frankly is a bit slow even in surfing. So I even have to use the PC to surf (like right now, posting this). Technically I'm still a mac user, albeit one with an old computer and OS. But I insist on using that old imac anyway, especially for word processing and spreadsheet, if only because I don't have to worry about viruses coming from the *.doc and excel files of other people.

    Thanks very much!
