Hardware & Software Upgrade/Update Problem [was "Help, it's my fault!"]
Help me pls.
I just bought a 2nd hand DV imac G3 400mhz on OS 9 & in good condition.
I installed my Tiger upgrade CD without consulting any Mac specialist.
Now, the imac monitor outputs blue display and a fade on the right panel.
Does this mean that the logic board was damaged?
What should I do?
Thanks.

What exactly did you do? You can't use the Tiger upgrade DVD on Mac OS 9...

Re: Help, it's my fault!
i inserted the tiger cd upgrade and launch the mac osx upgrade.
it launched actually and asked me what language and i chose english & tapped next.
it went on to continue on "preparing installation".
i noticed that it suddenly stopped so i shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
When I restarted the imac it already has monotone blue display and some fade on the right panel.
I restarted again and it already displayed red. Another restart and it turned bright yellow.
Did another restart and the display went back to colored but with some distortion.

Re: Help, it's my fault!
Did you upgrade your firmware before you updated? This is a common mistake for iMac G3 users to update the OS without updating the Firmware which results to problems.
What was your previous OS and version?

Oh sorry, you did say OS9? I dont think you can upgrade from OS9 to OSX with just an Tiger update CD.
You will need to have at least Panther 10.3.8 OSX running on your iMac to install the Tiger OSX Upgrade CD.

I didn't upgrade the firmware.
I actually searched from the web that firmware should be upgraded but it was too late.
I already made the os upgrade.
What are the repercussions? What will happen to the imac? sira na ba?
What can be done to fix this?
It's OS9.2.2 firmware, i think is 1.2f or something.

Yes I think thats the update you need. But I dont think the damage has been done.
It may have only corrupted your OS. Try reinstalling OS9, use your OS9 that came with the iMac and keep us posted.
Btw, I remember your handle name from Bidshot. Hehhe.

That is a problem since you don't have the OS9 disks. Maybe you can post in the forums that you are looking for one. Or call Ynzal (ynzal.com) to have them check out your unit.

I'm quite surprised that the Tiger Upgrade DVD even installed at all, it's not supposed to do that.

Yeah, it should have shown him a message saying that he needs to have the latest Panther running.
