    Default early OS\'s

just for archival purposes, do you think we can put together (at least theoretically) a library of all the mac OS's since system 1.0? i don't think i have anything older than system 6 (i might have 4.x on a 720K diskette somewhere...) anybody have the earlier ones? i think reysantos said he has 1.1.

btw, for the info of the newbies, all of the mac OS's from 7.5.5 backwards are now considered freeware.

WOW! There was a system 1? What computer did it run on? The "Apple" or the "Macintosh" systems? I've got a Mac Plus and the earliest system we had was 6.0!

thanks for the link, rey. i downloaded it--all 300+ K of it! don't you miss the days when you could carry your OS around on a floppy? (of course you needed yet another floppy for your data ) now to find the machine to run this on.

Inspired by all this talk of old OSes, I dug around in my attic this afternoon and found some of my original, pre-Mac software for the Apple ][, Apple ][+ and Apple //e-Enhanced I had.

They are all on 5.25" floppies, archived properly and probably still workable (if the media is still viable, that is). Actually, I'm a bit scared to try and use them, knowing how fragile they are. They are most likely good for one decent read, before the light film of dust and grime accumulated over two decades snowballs on the drive head and scratches the material irretrievably.

If anyone wants to try and restore them or copy them to hardier media, just holler.

    Among them are:

    • CP/M System Master
    • Apple DOS 3.3
    • DOS Boss
    • CP/M Utilities
    • CP/M Diagnostics
    • WordStar 3.3
    • FantaVision (animation software from 1984)
    • Print Shop
    • Print Shop Companion
    • Beagle Boys Utilities
    • DBase II
    • BigBanner
    • Fontrix
    • SpellStar
    • Where in The World is Carmen San Diego
    • Where in Time is Carmen San Diego
    • Wings of Fury
    • Karateka
    • S.A.M.
    • Lode Runner
    • Centipede
    • Copy II Plus (!!!)

...and a lot more! Alam nyo ang mga yan?

Sure brings back memories. (Gad, my age is showing. )

    If I remember it correctly...
    ...Mac System 7.1 isn't free.
