    Default Why Apps Unexpectedly Quit

I know this is a pretty general questions but I figure instead of asking why specific application crash on OSX, I was just wondering what usually causes them to crash? What are the more common reasons they crash?

I figure if I udnerstand the cause it might be easier to prevent in the future.

For example, all of a sudden, my Final Cut Express which worked fine when I first installed it a while ago, now doesn't want to work anymore. It just keeps on crashing. I opened the application for the first time and when I quit and tried opening it again it didn't want to work anymore.

So, what are the most common things that can usually cause an app to unexpectedly quit?

In FCP, try to delete the preference file to reset everything the way before. Unless you know how to read logs there's usually one after every crash.

    Hi mistermoya,

If you recently installed a system update, it's worth it to do a "Verify Permissions" using Apple Disk Utility.

If you did a major OS Upgrade, say Jaguar to Panther, make sure that your version of Final Cut Express is supported. Could be you just need to download a patch or update for Final Cut Express.

I'm not familiar with Final Cut configurations so I hope these help.

    Hi Miguel!

Try deleting the preferences file in the Final Cut Pro User Data folder found in Users--->Library--->Preferences .

    Hope it works.
