User's Folder Oddity

All the folders and files in my User's folder are apparently invisible. I tried creating folders like Shared and my user folder but I get a prompt that asks if I want to replace the existing folders. I also checked in my pristine backup account and my account folder shows along with the backup account.
Has this happened to anyone? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Oh.. I'm using Tiger and a PowerBook 1.5 Ghz - 15".
