Stuffit won't launch

My friend who recently got an iBook is having some trouble with Stuffit Expander. Whenever he clicks on it, it just continously bounces on the dock, never opening. I've tried deleteing the preferences, reinstalling the program and repairing permissions but it still won't work. What could be wrong? Is there an alternative to stuffit that I can use for the moment? (One that opens .bin, .hqx, .sit, etc)

go to www.versiontracker.com or google and look for stufft standard 9.0, the latest stuffit update. it's freeware. install and try that.

I just tried that. Even though it was stuffit 7.0 that wouldn't launch, 9.0 doesn't seem to want to work either.

open stuffit.. then wait for a long time for it to load then go to preferences and turn off the version checking option..

Thanks! It worked! Oddly, it never launched even though i waited for more than 15 minutes. I had to physically disconnect from the internet before I could get stuffit to work and turn off the version checking.

Had the same problem with mikaelrules,
Using version 7.0x when I disconnected from the internet, it then started. I changed the preferences to NOT check for updates and now it starts immediately.
I think the problem is the update website since when I manually tried to connect, it does not open which may cause the problem we experience.
