printing with HP Officejet 725

I have an HP Officejet 725 (multifunction printer/scanner/copier/fax), which is actually a Deskjet 600 series printer. It has a parallel interface. I don't have any problems printing to it when it is connected to a PC (via parallel port) and shared over the network (both using smb and lpd). I have installed gimp-print and it works without problems. Now, I want to get rid of the PC, but my ibook does not have a parallel port, can I get a USB to parallel port cable and expect it to work when connected to my ibook USB port?

BTW, I'm running OS X Panther 10.3.2.
