Your help preference files might be corrupted. Try trashing the prefs files.

    Refer to this thread.

You may also want to trash the other "help" plist items as well (com.apple.help.plist and com.apple.helpviewer.plist). When you open Help Viewer again you might notice that there are only a few items under its "Library". This is okay, help items will be (re)added as you access the help files from your applications.

Hi, did you delete just the two files in my post? Actually (as per the quoted thread) the first file to try to delete is com.apple.helpui.plist.

Okay, try trashing these three files in the preferences folder:

    com.apple.helpui.plist
    com.apple.help.plist
    com.apple.helpviewer.plist

If it still doesn't work, trash these files AND Help Viewer's cache folder. Folder name com.apple.helpui in Home > Library > Caches.

It's okay to trash these, don't worry, they'll be regenerated.

you have to delete those files (including the folder in the preferences folder). i had your exact same problem and after deleting those files, everything is back to normal. :-)
