Default How to block chat softwares

How can you block chat softwares on a wireless network with Airport Extreme Base Station as router?

Is there a software that we can use to block the chat softwares?

I believe Airport Extreme basestation has port filtering or forwarding feature, I don't have an Extreme basestation so I'm not sure, but if it does, simply find out which port(s) that certain chat software is using and block it all.

Is it possible to block port 443 (chat port) in the base station? Im not sure about that.

But when you block port 443 no chatting will be allowed.

Not sure if this is relevant: I think port 443 is for SSL communications (i.e. HTTPS), maybe try blocking port 6667 for IRC (I read somewhere that this is the IRC port).

    Just my $0.02.

Certain chat software like Yahoo Messenger are able to use a proxy server as medium to communicate. Just blocking certain ports will not be able to block all chat software.
