Hello, welcome to Philmug. I'd just like to inform you that we are against piracy in this forum. Kindly read the rules. Also, there is no need for you to post your question in several places around the forum. I took the liberty of deleting your twin post. Also, the pic you attached although cute, is a irrelevant. We run a tight ship here.

Now I'm just going to assume that when you said "download" you meant 'when I downloaded it to my HD from the original CD installer' since you were a bit vague about that.

First off, what exactly is your OS version? When you say OS X, that could mean ver 10, 10.1 (Puma), 10.2 (Jaguar), 10.3 (Panther), or the upcoming 10.4 (Tiger)

Before OS X, there was OS 9, I think this is your OS since you're using a G3 300mhz. If you want to upgrade to Panther, I hope you have a lot of RAM (recommend you have at least 256MB), else it'll be slow. I've actually installed it on my Tangerine iBook 300mhz with 196MB RAM, and it's very usable, until you run heavier apps like Adobe Photoshop or MS Word, Excel etc. But even then, still very usable.

About installing apps, normally there is a main setup file like windows. But with a lot of apps these days, you can also simply drag the app folder to your HD. MS Office is a good example. Which app are you trying to install?

Also note that OS X version apps cannot run on OS 9. You'd need to get a OS X version of that app.

    thanks sir kenneth

my os version.. hmmm.. im a newbie so not that familiar with it except when i boot, it reads os mac 9.1 version.. so i think i type the wrong os up there, regarding my ram i have 192mb, is that enough? the only applcation i want to add are ms word and excel

and yes the ms office that i try to install is that for mac os x.. so i need to upgrade to os x

which version of the os x can you recommend with my kind of set up.. 300mhz.. 192mb of ram to maximize it workability?

im now got a clearer picture, at least for the moment.. thanks for your help sir kenneth

OS 10.4 (Tiger) when its locally available comes in a DVD disc, and I doubt that your G3 has a DVD-ROM drive so it would be impossible for you to install that.

So your best option is to buy a copy of OS 10.3 (Panther). I suspect prices will come down once Tiger is formally launched. I have a Tangerine iBook with the same specs as yours running on Panther and its not bad at all. But if you'll be running MS Excel, you'll get a lot of "Out of memory" warnings. MS Word has no problem as far as I can tell, though I rarely use it.

I'd also recommend you upgrade your RAM to 512MB which is your maximum limit. On 192MB it'll be slow. Though I'm not sure if you're willing to make the investment since a 512MB PC100 SO-DIMM RAM module is pretty rare these days. Its easier to find it online than locally. And even if you find it locally, it's bound to be uber expensive. Around 10k last I asked. Its around $110 online.
