Help: Internet Explorer Quits While Starting
Can someone please help me?
I was working on Adobe Go Live, and I accidentaly pressed the preview button and it launched both Safari and Internet Explorer. IE crashed while opening with the error "The application Internet Explorer has unexpectedly quit" with an option to send a report to Apple.
I already re-installed Internet Explorer and repaired permissions. No dice.
Safari is unaffected and works just fine.
What else can I do? I need IE to test websites...
Any help would be appreciated, I need to make this work. Thanks.
I'm running Mac OS 10.3.4 and use Adobe Go Live CS, and IE 5.2.

Try trashing the explorer the plist and empty the trash after, then try launching IE again. The plist file is located at ~/Library/Preferenes/com.microsoft.explorer.plist

IE has quit on me so often that i'm no longer surprised or bothered. i still use it for a few sites, but i've stopped wondering why it quits or seeking a fix. let's not forget that IE 5.2 is practically a legacy program that stopped being seriously developed for the mac a couple of years ago, something never designed for the OS that OS X has meanwhile become. (and i think this is basically it--not further work on IE for the mac, with safari and firefox out and offering much better features.)

that is so true, Butch. Now, if only BPIExpressonline could be Safari, Firefox or Netscape compatible...

hmmm, i use firefox for bpiexpressonline without any problems--granted, all i do is check my current-account balance and look at the history for, oh, one or two weeks. going a bit OT, what problems have you been having with bpiexpressonline?

elbert, i deleted and trashed the plist file but the problem remains the same. same error message, same symptoms.
i tried uninstalling and reinstalling again thinking this might work, no success.
i tried repairing permissions again. it corrected a lot of internet explorer stuff, and when it was done, it said repairs were complete. i tried opening internet explorer again, it's still quitting before it can actually open.
weird thing- i tried to install netscape 6 at some point, when i tried to open it- same problem, quit before opening. i wonder what this means? safari works fine though.
i'm really bothered and i want to make it work...any more help will be greatly appreciated.

I can do the same, Butch, but I can't do anything else (i.e fund transfers, check-free payments, etc.) since the menus don't work. Even a clean install of Tiger and new instals of IE, Firefox and Netscape didn't help. I guess no one at BPI uses a Mac.
Angelo, I don't know what else to suggest. But see if reset PMU and PRAM will help you.
(Shut down before performing these steps.)
Reset PMU - hold down the following keys: Shift+Ctrl+option and Power Button (for a few seconds)
Reset PRAM - while booting up, hold down Apple+option+P+R. Wait for the chime to sound at least three times before letting go.

elbert, i fixed it right before i came back here!!!
what i did is i tested first it if i would have the same problem with a new user account, and IE opened fine.
so i went back to my own admin account, moved the Preferences folder to the desktop, and Finder automatically created a new Preferences folder in its place. when i opened IE, it worked!
now i'm just opening all my programs to recreate my preferences. no big deal, really.
again, thanks!!! :-)

Hey, I haven't had any problems using BPI ExpressOnline with Safari and Firefox, both on Panther and Tiger. I use the non-IE page that someone recommended in a thread here a long time ago. The menu buttons on the top of the main page don't work, but the ones at the bottom of the page (in a separate window; you might have to scroll way down to see them at the bottom of the page) do.
@angel benet: sorry for going OT. I gave up on IE and did't even install it when I did a clean install of Panther about a year ago.

hey, cool!
thanks for the page link to bpiexpressonline, coz i've been having problems making my payments using my iBook, too. so it's either i do my banking while at work (where i'm on a dell desktop) or using IE when i'm home.
thanks again!
