Find in Finder Quits
Help!
The Find application suddenly quits in the middle of a search. And the icons on the desktop disappear for a while.
What gives?
Better yet, what corrupts?
Any help in fixing the problem would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Have you guys tried repairing permissions?

I did. Finder still crashes whenever I type anything in the search bar.

Delete Finder Preferences
1. Open a Finder window and navigate to Home > Library > Preferences folder.
2. Trash the file com.apple.finder.plist
3. If you are using Panther, also trash the file com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
4. Then either:
log out and in again, or
relaunch the Finder by choosing Force Quit from the Apple menu and selecting Finder, and clicking on the Force Quit button.
5. Empty the Trash.
Good luck,

I did everything you said, Geecube, but Finder still refuses to work. And I tried running Sherlock, but it crashed as well. I checked the crash log:
dyld: /Applications/Sherlock.app/Contents/MacOS/Sherlock can't open library: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SearchEngine.framework/Versions/A/SearchEngine (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Now, I really want to know...what happened to my search engine?
I ran Onyx. Didn't work.
I downloaded Cocktail, and ran it as well. Also didn't work.
I don't remember doing anything radical which might have caused my search engine to just...disappear.
What could I have done wrong?

I created another admin account, and tried searching again. Finder crashed.
Also, when I got my iBook less than 2 months ago, start-up time was just under 30 seconds. Now, it's three and a half minutes! Not really a big deal or anything, but it bugs the hell out of me.
Should I boot from the CD? Reinstall everything? I love my iBook, but I'm on the verge of hurling it out the window.
Actually, I'm not. I'm just freaking out because I didn't sleep at all last night trying to fix this. I have no idea what I should do now. Help?

Hi dee_yanne, can't say I have any idea what's going on, but since you're trying stuff anyway, check out applejack, found here. It's freeware.
As you can see from the project page it repairs the disk, repairs permission, cleans up the cache files, validates preference files and removes swap files. From single user mode so you don't have OS-X running.
Download it, follow the instructions for installing it, then restart in single user mode. I recommend you run the whole gamut of ("applejack auto reboot") from the command prompt. It'll take a few minutes to complete.
Note that after doing when you double-click on files (e.g., a MS Word file) OS-X will inform you that you will be opening MS Word for the first time -- this is ok, it's only because applejack cleaned up stuff.
Anyway, good luck!
