FileVault
Does anyone use FileVault? I have it turned on and some performance lags, and I was wondering if I'm like the only one using it. Also, does it really make sense? I mean, I need to secure my data, but I don't think it'll be stolen physically... so just some ideas wanted, people?

I did, but not anymore. I've turned it off. It was using up a lot of hard disk space, about 4GB in my case. Read more about it here.

i think file vault also protects your files from being accessed through rendezvous and blue tooth.

Filevault seems to have slowed down my iDVD 4 encoding. First I thought I shouldn't be encoding from my ATA-4 drive so I moved to the ATA-6. Same slow progress. I should have remembered that I've encoded projects off the slave drives with no problem. After sifting around the web, Filevault and not Norton Auto Protect (although I'm turning this off too) is the main suspect. I have 2 GB of Ram and my main Mac is a MDD Dual 1.25Ghz 4x Superdrive.

No. It slows down your system, there is no need to encrypt your complete iPhoto Library and your mp3 collection, it only grabs a lot of Mbytes on your HD and if your Mac crashes your data is gone (there is a not proper closed image left after the crash).
If you really need to secure some files I would recommend to create a so called sparse-image (with Disc utilities) and drop all the files into it. Its the same technology.
