editing videos using quicktime
we can edit or mix music using quicktime right? all me have to do is select copy and paste to a new player right? i know these but when it comes to editing videos, it's the same procedure am i right?
i have a problem that keeps boggling my mind. i have the music videos of "the reason" and "same direction" by hoobastank and i was trying to join or combine them into one video or movie using quicktime. however, after selecting a part of it, the copy command under the edit menu is inactive. i thought it was probably the file format. but the file format of both videos is mpeg1 muxed track which i found out after clicking extract track under the "i forgot" menu.
what am i going to do? how am i supposed to edit these videos in the mpeg1 muxed track format? if it isn't possible, is there another better way aside from quicktime.
any other way would do as long as i accomplish combining these videos.
please HELP ME!

convert them first to .mov format ... and then you "might" be able to copy the tracks.
hope this helps.

Do you have a valid QuickTime Pro registration code? You can edit video/audio files using QuickTime Pro, but not with the vanilla QuickTime Player. :-)

A muxed MPEG1 movie cannot be edited, even with Quicktime Pro. You'd need to export it to .mov first. The problem is, exporting using Quicktime Pro will yield only the video track. You'd have to export the audio track separately using another program (i.e. ffmpegX) and reassamble both tracks in a new Quicktime movie. A quicker way, if you have Toast 6, is to drag the muxed MPEG1 movie onto Toast's video tab, highlight it, and select Export Video (Command-K) from the Disc menu. You should get a .dv file with both video and audio tracks. Hope this helps!

This thread is very timely. I am also having problems working on a video project. My client wanted me to capture video clips from a DVD he gave me (news clips) so he can arrange it in the order he likes. How do I capture or import it from either Premier or FCP? For sure I will need to copy it into my HD but can it be imported straight to FCP or Premier?
He gave me an alternative by giving me another CD which contains the individual clips he wants but the problem is they are .WMV files and were (I guess) only meant for web streaming since the file sizes are small and so are the screens when you view it. I tried importing it to toast but .WMV can't be recognized. Is there also a way to upsample it (is there such a term?) or convert it to a higher quality video for a bigger screen ratio? TIA.
