    Default american flag?!

There's an American Flag icon on the menu bar at the top of my desktop (I don't know how to do a screen shot so I can't show you what it looks like)...

The flag icon's in between the volume and the battery icons on the upper right hand of my screen... I have no idea where it came from. When I click the flag, a drop down menu shows with:
    - US (this one's checked)
    - show character palette
    - show input mode palette
    - open international

Hmm! I don't know where this came from! It's bugging me that it's right up there on my screen. :wound: Anyone know how to get rid of it?

I'm thinking it might have popped out when I was clicking around Mail, looking at the preferences, but I can't be sure...

    Hi Chinggay,
Press command+click while dragging the icon out of the toolbar. It will vanish like dragging icons out of your dock.
This also works if you want to rearrange the order of items on your upper right hand corner.

Go to System Preferences - International - Input Menu

Uncheck "Show input menu in menu bar"

Too bad there's no Philippine flag in there. If there's one, I'd use it

The flag indicates the keyboard layout you selected.
Press Command-Shift-3 to take a picture of your whole screen
Press Command-Shift-4, then drag to select an area you want in the picture.

i have in my TiBook! after scouring the web, i made one, hehe

    The trick is:

    1. Make 2 files, an ICON (.icns) for the flag and a KEYBOARD LAYOUT (.keylayout) - mine is based on the US Keyboard layout to go with the icon. The icon was made with iconographerX, using the icns extension.

    2. Place the 2 files in the Users/username/Library/Keyboard Layouts folder. Where username is you short name, i think...

    3. Click on the current american flag and click Open International... from the dropdown menu.

    4. Click the Input Menu tab, scroll down and look for the name of the Keyboard you created. Mine happened to be named Pilipinas and tick the checkbox next to it. When you click on the flag icon again, you should now be able to select the Philippine flag. When I did not find the flag, I tried to re-start and it appeared.

You can get the 2 files I used from http://www.catchlight.com.ph/randy/Pilipinas.zip

Anyway, here's how it looks like:

Sorry, im not good at making icons. Give me a nice one if you can.

If the keyboard goes awry, simply go back to using the US icon or just turn it off, hehe. I havent encountered any problems using it though. Or simple trashing the 2 files from the Keyboard layouts folder resets it.

Enjoy trying to use it/make it work as much as I did trying to make it work.

Using it now. Cool! I had to restart too to make the icon display properly.

to a personal image. This is appears during the boot process.

Will experiment...(i hope i dont hit an iceberg...) :drunk:

    And the search continues...

    Cheers!

Bernie, if one of the things taking up menu bar space is the name for fast user switching, try WinSwitch. Let's you display an icon (or short name) instead of the default name.

I did notice one problem when using the Pilipinas keyboard layout, I can't seem to type into the password field when using fast user switching. Changing the keyboard layout to U.S. solves the problem. Can anyone confirm this?
