    Default silly audio question

this will show you what an ignoramus i am when it comes to audio stuff:

is there such a thing as an "extension cord" for earphones or headphones? some length of wire with a female connector on the free end that i can plug headphones into?

my mom, who's slowly but surely going deaf, watches her TV soaps with the volume on full blast, driving everyone nuts so i got her headphones to plug into the TV. she was happy with them (and so were we) for a while, but stopped using them because the short length of the wire meant she had to sit right next to the TV. so you see my predicament.

if there were wireless headphones and they didn't cost a mint of money, i'd consider those, too.

what's the best solution, and where can i buy this whatchamacallit?

It's just called as generic as Headphone Extension Cable.

Online they range around $6.95-$39.95 depending on brand and built. Locally try AudioShack, True Value or Handyman.

The jacks to look for are 1/8" female and male on the other end for earphones like the stock one with the ipod. 1/4" adapter heads for the bigger headphones, like the one pictured here. And make sure there's a stripe on the male heads, which means they are in stereo for different Left and Right channels.

Now if you need a particular length that you can't find in stores, you can have one custom built. A good and cheap Audio electronics shop I always go to is the one located at Rustan's Cubao beside Book Sale (forgot the name). They have most of the adapters, plugs and cables. Get what you need and they will solder for you, cheap lang talaga! Best to bring your headphone so you can test the cable.

Just in case you don't find the adapter heads at that store, you can always walk to SM Ace Hardware, or Audiophile Ali Mall.

Ayos pa din sa Cubao! Although I havent seen macs or wi-fi hotspots there...

Hey katsch, good suggestion! You have an idea how much it costs? Do you own one, how does it sound?

Check out True Value, you'd be surprised at the kinds of cables they carry. Minsan lang nga, matagal mag replenish when stocks run out.

Try Radio Shack as well. If not, you can always go to Raon. I dunno id Deeco is still around, but that's a good place for that kind of stuff.

i solved my problem with a pair of sennheiser RF wireless headphones, thanks to didi olaguer, who sold them to me slightly used at half price. my mom loves them, especially when i tell her she has to be the coolest, high-tech mom in diliman, to be able to listen to her telenovelas from the garden. thanks, didi!
