Default Quicktime Encoded wav files won\'t play as ringtones in Nokia 6600

Recently, I attempted to export a 15 sec. audio segment of a Quicktime (*.mov) trailer as a .wav file for use as a ringtone in my Nokia 6600.

While the .wav file successfully played under Quicktime 6.5.1 and was successfully exported to my Nokia 6600 via bluetooth, Recorder wouldn't play it back and neither could it be successfully used as a ringtone.

Any hints on what I'm doing wrong?

    P.S.

.wav files from a Nokia 6600 Applications / Games / Ringtones disc I got from Greenhills played flawlessly on the Nokia 6600.

I have the same problem but with a P900. Some wav files I download from certain sites work on the P900, some don't and gives me Playback Error messages. I read somewhere that some wav files are encoded differently and this might be the cause of it. Check how Quick Time encodes wav files, and compare that with the wav files that do work on your 6600.

How does one check how a .wav file was encoded?

This just a shot in the dark, but how about using iTunes to encode it? But I think you'll get the same results though... :wound:

Also a shot in the dark. Check the encoding settings of your WAV file (i.e. khz, mono or stereo) and check what your phone accepts. If you dont know encode the file in iTunes using different settings and check if any would work on your phone.

Open the .wav file with QuickTime Player (QT Pro) and hit command-i to view how it was encoded. Compare the settings with a .wav file that actually works on your phone. Then export the .wav file that doesn't work using the same settings as the one that does work. I was able to do this with one particular .wav file. Setting was at 8 Khz, Mono, 8 bits. I'll try again with some other files and let you know what happens.

    BTW, those settings were for a P900 as I don't have a 6600.

Better yet, to make your life easier, just use Wiretap to record the audio.
