    Default Preferred Mac Printers

Guys, what printers does the Mac preffer? I'm in the market for one and I want one that is easily set-up.

I have 5 printers at home and only one is compatible and it can't print thick papers and envelopes and stuff.

I personally use an HP deskjet printer but before buying it, I made sure that it had drivers for Mac OS X *and* it had USB interface.

Any of the current Canon, HP, Epson, etc. inkjets with USB connections and OS X drivers will work. Apple's got a nifty products guide for printers here. ;-)

If you're gonna need photo printing capabilities, I recommend the Canon i960. Six individual ink tanks, borderless prints (4x6, 5x7, 8.5x11), etc. etc. OS X (10.2.1 - 10.3.x) drivers are available here. A review of the printer can be found here.

If you don't need 6-color printing, the Canon i860 is a good choice. Cheaper, too. Five individual ink tanks (including a dedicated blank ink tank for text), borderless prints (4x6, 5x7, 8.5x11). Review available here.

Cheaper still (but still good) is the Canon i560 (roughly P8K). Four individual ink tanks, still capable of borderless prints up to 8.5"x11"!

    Hope this helps!

I use an HP LaserJet 1010 in the office and an HP OfficeJet 5510 All-in-One at home- both are compatible with the Mac (and reasonably priced too).

I have a Canon S520 which I am very happy with. The individual cartridges for each color minimizes ink wastage.

The driver you're using, is it version 6.3.6? I believe that's the version with Panther support.

i have the el cheapo Canon S200SP since for myself i print only documents. it's great for printing on envelopes, and for printing on those cd sticker labels from cd-r king. and the black ink, which is all i ever use, costs just 300 pesos anywhere, genuine pa. the generic is 127 pesos but i don't use that. colored genuine is 600 plus, colored generic is about 170 or something.

but that's if all you ever print is documents.

for photos, don't ever use hp deskjet 1220C. it only prints in classic mode.
