Default Nokia 6600 as GPRS modem for Albook 12\"

I have a 12" Albook G4 800 and a Nokia 6600. Myglobe GPRS, Myglobe Internet, and Myglobe MMS have all been set up on my 6600. I would like to connect to the net using my 12" Albook G4 800 and my Nokia 6600. How do I go about it? Platinum hotline seem to be clueless about my question.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

    Alfie

    Hi Alf,

Go into System Preferences, click on Bluetooth, Devices, Set Up New Device. That will call up the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.

Username and password are not necessary, but use globe for both to be safe.

The GPRS CID String to the APN that resides in the phone. Check your phone settings to see which APN (1st, 2nd or 3rd) has the following:

    internet.globe.com.ph

If it's the first, then the telephone number should be *99***1#

I'm not sure which script you should be using for the Nokia. You can do a little more research to see which one works with your specific phone.

Good luck. Be sure to use it wisely, P0.25 per kb is not cheap. I choose to limit my GPRS to emergency situations and for e-mail/chat only.

I did everything as instructed. Deleted the pairing, set up the new device as instructed above. Used Nokia Infrared Modem for the Dialing script and had the following settings on the phone:

    Username: globe
Password: globe (I also tried leaving this blank)
    Dial-up Number: *99***<num># (<num> would refer to either 1 = Myglobe GPRS; 2 = Myglobe Internet; 3 = Myglobe MMS)

I tried 1 and 2 for the <num>. Using 1 would result in 'establishing connection', 'authenticating user' then disconnect.

Using 2 would result in a 'no carrier signal' message.

Globe Platinum hotline seemed clueless about connecting with Macs.

Just in case my wap connection settings were incorrect, I can browse using the Nokia 6600's default WAP browser or the Opera Browser built in.

Elbert, what does ]b] mean in your post:

" If it's the fist, then the telephone number should be *99***]b]1# "

Sorry about that. I meant to say:

If it's the first, then the telephone number should be *99***1#

Please check that the assigned APN's are correct.

Myglobe GPRS = www.globe.com.ph. This APN is free, but limited to WAP browsing.

Myglobe Internet - internet.globe.com.ph. This APN is what you use for e-mail, HTML, chat, etc., especially when connecting from an external device (i.e. a laptop). The usage fee is P0.25 per KB downloaded and uploaded.

Myglobe MMS - mms.globe.com.ph. This APN is what's used for sending MMS at a rate of P5 per send.

Try using the Myglobe Internet APN with your phone's browser, just to establish that it's working fine. Make sure to revert the settings back the Myglobe GPRS after trying it out.

Sometimes the service is erratic, depending on where you are too. In congested areas and peak times, GPRS is usually difficult. Just keep trying.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yup, I understood that part. MyGlobe Internet appears as the second in the list of Connections so technically, I should dial *99***2# but doing so would not even reach authentication stage, just connecting...then disconnecting with the BT indicator on my Nokia 6600 activating for a moment to indicate a connection being attempted.

My 6600 and Albook 12" are trusted pairs so no further permissions needed.

Tried all numeric combinations *99***1#, *99***2#, *99***3# each corresponding to GPRS, Internet, and MMS. All three would attempt to connect to the Nokia 6600 via BT but would disconnect soon after.

It used to work with my Sony Ericsson T610 though.

Default Connecting to Internet via Globe GPRS with 12\" Powerbook and Nokia 6600

Does anybody here have a step by step instruction on how to connect my 12" Aluminum Powerbook to the internet via Globe GPRS using a Nokia 6600? Been unsuccessful after trying out the instructions outlined on myglobe.com.ph website.

Thanks for any help on this.

Although 2 different questions, I took the liberty of merging this with the rest of the topic since they are semi-related. Let's address everything re: GPRS and Nokia 6600 here to avoid clutter.

    Thanks!
