Need additional RAM
Hi guys,
My first post here and a very recent switcher. I need additional RAM for my eMac 1.25G. Can you recommend a reputable place to go?
Best Regards,
Edwin

Maybe you should go to the Apple Centre? Prices are a bit higher (they admitted this themselves), but I like the comfort of having them do the upgrade for me. For more expensive upgrades, you can buy elsewhere and have them install it for a fee (P 1,500 I think). Not to mention the superior and knowledgeable staff/service they have (don't forget after-sales support).

P1.5K for a 5 minute install? That's highway robbery. IMO a dealer should at least give the service for free if you get expensive RAM from them.

get the DDR333/PC2700 CL=2.5 dimms... also, only 1024MB of ram can be installed.

efm2, if you're used to a PC, installing ram should be fairly easy. It uses the same rams anyway. Just check if the timings on the rams has a standard.

No, it's 1.5k if you bought the RAM elsewhere... and by experience, the quoted price isn't usually followed (if you're in good "terms" with the technician who does it). It's standard for labour... in fact, it's P 1,650 with IBM (5 years ago) or its authorised resellers.
But then, the manuals are pretty straightforward (but since he's new, and the eMac is new, it helps to preserve the warranty as much as possible).
Btw, I buy all my RAM from Apple Centre, and if I buy it there, they pop the service free, which is just proper.

hi efm2. RAM for your eMac is user-accessible so it may not void your warranty if you get more reasonably priced compatible third party RAM and install it yourself. you may want to check out this thread.

Which is also highway robbery
efm2, as long as you don't pry your eMac open with a crowbar, you won't void your warranty when adding RAM. Get it from a 3rd-party and save a bundle. Heck, I'll install it for you for free if you're apprehensive of doing it yourself
